Computer-assisted Planning and 3D-Printed Splint Manufacturing in Orthognathic Surgery for Correction of Skeletal Class III Patients with Facial Asymmetry: Case Report

چکیده
The treatment of skeletal facial asymmetry, especially accompanied with skeletal Class III deformity, could be complex and challenging. In this case report, we present the orthodontic and surgical management of a 20-year-old girl who had a severe craniofacial deformity, including skeletal facial asymmetry and mandibular prognathism. During preoperative orthodontics, 2 upper first premolars were extracted to allow the retraction and upright of upper anterior teeth, while the lower anterior teeth were proclined for decompensation. The upper and lower arch width were also coordinated before surgery. Computer-assisted 3dimentional (3D) planning and simulating was used to define the exact special position of maxilla, mandible and chin. Intermedial and final splints were also manufactured by computer designing and 3D printing. The preoperative planning was thus precisely transferred to patient during surgical procedure. Postoperative orthodontic treatment completed the final occlusal adjustment. The clinical results showed that the patient's facial esthetics was significantly improved with good symmetry and straight profile, and a desirable occlusion was achieved.

The application of digital model surgery in the treatment of dento-maxillofacial deformities
A retrospective study was conducted to explore the application of digital model surgery in the treatment of dento-maxillofacial deformities. Fifteen patients with dento-maxillofacial deformities were enrolled in this study. A digital craniomaxillofacial-dentition model was established by combining three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) and laser-scanned dentition models. Based on this ...
متن کاملAccuracy of Three-Dimensional Planning in Surgery-First Orthognathic Surgery: Planning Versus Outcome
Background The benefit of computer-assisted planning in orthognathic surgery (OGS) has been extensively documented over the last decade. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of three-dimensional (3D) virtual planning in surgery-first OGS. Methods Fifteen patients with skeletal class III malocclusion who underwent bimaxillary OGS with surgery-first approach were included. A composite skul...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate transverse skeletal and dental changes, including those in the buccolingual dental axis, between patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion and facial asymmetry after bilateral intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy with and without presurgical orthodontic treatment. METHODS This retrospective study included 29 patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion and facial asym...
متن کاملTreatment Approach for Maxillary Hypoplasia in Cleft Patients: Class III Elastics with Skeletal Anchorage (Report of Two Cases)
Introduction: Treatment ofcleft lip and palate patients requires a multidisciplinary plan. These patients usually have a hypoplastic maxilla due to the prior surgical scars. Orthognathic surgery to advance the maxilla in these patients is not very efficient; therefore, orthopedic interventions during an appropriate age seems to be essential. Case Report: In this article, two cleft lip and pa...
متن کاملHybrid Mix - a new software solution and web service to get surgical splints in orthognathic surgery
Planar cephalometry in essence provides only 2D information. CT scan provides 3D information for osseous and soft tissues but remains irradiant. STL dental models are interesting tools allowing for the production of 3D printed surgical splints. In orthognathic surgery planning, exploiting these three fields of information by linking them to the clinical findings and getting them all synchronize...
